‘Disk Clean’ button alternative in vista !

Apart from the previous post Disc Cleanup in vista can also be performed in the following way:
Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Performance Information and Tools
Now on the left column choose Open Disk Cleanup. The rest is the same as it is in the General Tab of disk properties box.

I found the following techguy help digging through internet:

1. If you right-click a drive, select Properties, then select the Tools tab, you’ll see buttons for backing up and defragmenting your disk. On the General tab, you’ll also see a button labeled Disk Cleanup. By default, Win2K and later run the following programs for Disk Cleanup:
   • Disk cleanup–C:\Windows\system32\cleanmgr.exe /D %c
2. Navigate to the

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer

   registry subkey. Under the subkey are three keys: BackupPath, cleanuppath, and DefragPath. Under each of these keys, the (Default) value specifies the program to be used. If any of the keys don’t exist (by default, BackupPath doesn’t exist in Win2K), go to the Edit menu; select New, Key; then enter the name of the missing key under the MyComputer subkey.

3. Double-click the (Default) value under the path you want to modify, change the value to reflect the program you want to use, (C:\Windows\system32\cleanmgr.exe /D %c) then click OK.
4. Close the registry editor.

Cygwin corruption of $Recycle.Bin in Vista

When installing Cygwin sometimes it corrupts the $Recycle.Bin folder with it’s permission setting somehow. That in turn makes problem in your Vista OS while operating through the explorer.

Work around through it is a bit tricky for Vista. Here is what you can do :

Option #1

Restore to previous version the root drive

Alternatively, if you can’t succeed doing that or do not have any option for doing that try the following:

Option #2

Start a command prompt or type cmd at the run prompt with admin rights.
Type the followings:

cd \
attrib -S -H /S $Recycle.Bin
del /F /S /Q /ASH $Recycle.Bin\
exit

Stylish: way to write CSS in Ruby/RoR

I was trying to learn and earn the Ruby and further on RoR — Ruby on Rails, a web development framework. On the way I found out the wonderful Stylish gem that can be used to create the CSS from within the Ruby for the yielded pages!

This is indeed a wonderful tool created by Ben Estaugh of Extralogical.

As Ben says, Stylish has more beauty of creation when gemmed with Ruby 1.9 as it can be layed out more CSS like with shorthand syntax available for hash in 1.9.

গরু একটি গোয়ালপালিত পশু। তবে গোয়াল না থাকলে বাইরে খুটিতেও বেঁধে রাখা যেতে পারে। এক্ষেত্রে চুরি হওয়া কিংবা দড়ি ছিঁড়ে চম্পট দেওয়া সংক্রান্ত যাবতীয় দায়দায়ীত্ব আপনার।

গরুর পা আছে ঠিকই, কিন্ত তাদের সম্প্রদায়ে জুতা পরার সিস্টেম চালু না থাকায় এ পর্যন্ত কোনো গরুকেই কখনো জুতা পরতে দেখা যায় না। এরা জুতা পরলে অবশ্য জুতার ক্ষেত্রে ‘জোড়া’ শব্দটি চালু না হয়ে ‘হালি’ শব্দটি চালু হতে পারত।

গরুর দুটি শিং রয়েছে। এই শিং নামক দুটি অস্ত্র রাখার দায়ে কোনো গরুকে এ পর্যন্ত জেলহাজত কিংবা অন্য কোনো শাস্তির মুখোমুখি হতে শুনা যায় নি। গরুর বিশাল একটা মাথা রয়েছে।

মাথার উপর হাল্কা চুল থাকলেও বড় কোনো চুল নেই, কারণ গরুরা ইচ্ছে করেই চুল বড় করে না। আর বড় করে না এই জন্য, যেহেতু বাজারে এখনো তাদের চুলের যত্নে কোনো শাম্পু কেনাবেচা হচ্ছে না।

গরুর মেগা সাইজের একটা ভুঁড়ি আছে। এই ভুঁড়ি কমাতে তারা কোনো যানবাহনে না চড়ে হেঁটে যাতায়াত করে। গরু তাদের মাথায় লম্বা চুল না রাখলেও লেজের মাথায় লম্বা কতগুলো চুল রাখে, যাতে মশামাছি গায়ে বসামাত্র কষিয়ে বাড়ি মারতে পারে। মেয়ে গরুকে গরু সম্প্রদায়ের পরিভাষায় বলা হয় গাই। তাদের নামে বাংলাদেশের একটা জেলারও নামকরণ করা হয়েছে ‘গাইবান্ধা’।

টিসু বা রুমাল না থাকায় গরুরা মন খুলে কাঁদতে পারে না।
টিসু বা রুমাল না থাকায় গরুরা সর্দি মুছতে পারে না। সে কারণে নিজের জিহবা-ই ব্যবহার করতে হয় সময়ে অসময়ে।

গরু সাংঘাতিক উপকারী প্রাণী। গরু আমাদের চারপাশের ঘাস, লতাপাতা খেতে গিয়ে শাকশব্জিও খেয়ে ফেলে। ফলে আমাদের বাড়িতে কেউ শাক রান্না করতে চাইলেও করতে পারেন না। শাক খেতে যা বিশ্রী লাগে! এমনিতে খালাতো বোনের সঙ্গে দেখা করার ব্যাপারে নিষেধাজ্ঞা থাকলেও কোরবানীর ঈদে গরুর মাংস নিয়ে আসার ছুতোয় আমরা সহজেই দেখাটা করে ফেলতে পারি।

তবে গরুর কিছু অপকারী দিকও আছে। গরু নামে পৃথিবীতে একটা প্রাণী আছে বলেই শিক্ষকরা আমাদের ‘গরু’ বলে সম্বোধন করেন। যা অতিশয় মর্মবেদনাদায়ক। গরু খানিকটা বেয়াদব কিসিমের প্রাণী। কারণ সে কোনো রকম আদব-কায়দার ধার না ধেরে মাঝেমধ্যে এমন জোরে লাত্থি মারে যে নিজেকে তখন মনে হয় ফুটবল জাতীয় একটা কিছু। বিষয়টা একটু লজ্জাকর বৈকি।

পরিশেষে বলা যায়, গরুর ছোটখাটো অপরাধ থাকলেও প্রাণী হিসেবে গরু কিন্ত ভালোই। যে কারণে শুধু কোরবানীর বাজারেই নয়, কবিদের কবিতার বাজারেও গরুর ভাল একটা ডিমান্ড আছে। তাই তো জনৈক অখ্যাত কবি তার এক জবরদস্ত কবিতায় এভাবে রশি ধরে টেনে এনেছেন গরুকে – ‘তুমি সাগর, আমি মরু / ছিলাম ছাগল, হলাম গরু’

How NOT to elevate an installer application in Vista

Like many others I had problems installing softwares in my Vista(Business) laptop since long as it always forces me to install it with Admin authority, which I didn’t want! I just wanted to install a software or a program for a testing purpose some of which didn’t even need to register in the windows registry.

Vista has a way to force the setup programs to elevate the current user if the user is not the administrator. That way Vista ensures the security of the system, at least that’s what there defenses are.

But in order to install my programs without elevating my user credentials, I searched the web with the help of Google Search and landed on a helpful msdn blog of Andrew Arnott

The important bit of code that helped me at the moment was the following:

There is a way to coerce Vista to not elevate a process that it otherwise would.

REM The next command MUST be run from an elevated command window.
REM It launches regedit.exe WITHOUT elevated privileges.
runas /trustlevel:0x20000 regedit.exe

I have modified it to take a parameter that would help you run this for any program from an elevated command prompt

Here is what is done to do the job:

I have saved it as UnUAC.cmd in the folder c:\Windows\System32\. That way it remains available at all levels and under any directory path. That’s how I’d be able to run any application without the admin elevation of the user
